Governor's Office — police briefings behind the Governor's statements on the suspect's motive: $615 bill, nothing released (260716AB2)
What we asked for: for September 11–16, 2025, the briefing documents, talking points, or written summaries that any law-enforcement agency gave the Governor or his communications staff before the Governor's public statements about the suspect's motive, ideology, or roommate — plus a record showing which agency provided each one and when. The request is for the copies held by the Governor's Office, not police investigation files.
What we got: a bill, no records, and no statement on whether any records exist. On July 17, 2026 the office said it will not start searching until $615.00 is paid: 9.0 hours of estimated staff time at $60 an hour ($540.00) plus a $75.00 out-of-state filing fee (invoice GO‑071726‑0088, due August 3, 2026). The office's email adds that paying "does not entitle you to access any records," and that the final cost may differ from the estimate.
Fee waiver: refused Jul 17, 2026 (faster answer also refused); appeal to the Chief of Staff turned down Aug 5, 2026 as final.
