UVU — Police Chief Jeff Long's September 2025 emails, chats, and texts, as already given to the Daily Caller News Foundation and Blaze News: released in full, 74 documents (request #26-242)
What we asked for: copies of two sets of records UVU had already released to news outlets about UVU Police Chief Jeff Long and the September 10, 2025 shooting: (1) the roughly 113 pages given to the Daily Caller News Foundation, and (2) the 19 screenshots given to Blaze News. We also asked for the paper trail behind each: the outlet's request, UVU's decision letters, and any list of what was held back.
What we got: all of it, 74 documents. UVU took one extension on August 10 ("a large number of records requests") and released everything on August 14, 2026. UVU says the blacked-out parts inside the two earlier releases "were in the original documents when released"; the only new blackouts are personal-privacy redactions (§ 63G-2-302(2)(d), a clearly unwarranted invasion of personal privacy) on the requests and letters. Volume 1 is the paper trail: the Daily Caller News Foundation's November 21, 2025 request for Chief Long's communications from September 1–30, 2025, with UVU's March 20 and March 27, 2026 decision letters (UVU #25-330); and Blaze Media's April 1, 2026 request for texts on the chief's department devices from September 3–10, 2025, with UVU's April 15, 2026 letter (UVU #26-83). Both letters say UVU held back some further records, for example for security and privacy reasons. Volumes 2 and 3 are the Daily Caller release: 50 documents, 112 pages, of Chief Long's September 2025 emails and Teams chats, in UVU's document-number order (0001–0076, then 0077–0112). Volume 4 is the Blaze release: 19 screenshots of the chief's text messages, September 3–11, 2025. Every document is bookmarked by its UVU document number.
